What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy is an accredited training scheme which is run by the Carbon Literacy Project (CLP) to embed sustainable behaviour changes within an organisation. The sustainability training improves staff awareness of the carbon costs and the impacts of their everyday activities. It also empowers individuals, communities and organisations to be aware of how their actions can reduce emissions.

Training is delivered by approved providers, such as WRM, who deliver a sector specific training pack to your employees through online or in person training sessions.

Organisations can become an accredited “Carbon Literate Organisation”, signalling commitment to address climate change in a holistic manner. By having a third-party accreditation verified by the CLP, your commitment to action on climate change is meaningful and substantive. This strengthens the sustainability and corporate social responsibility credentials of any organisation.

Why Become Carbon Literate?

Carbon Literacy training can support your sustainability strategy objectives to increase employee awareness of climate change and the actions that individuals and organisations can take to reduce their impact. Individuals gain an increased awareness of climate science, the impacts from a warming planet, and what can be done to mitigate and adapt to such change.

By becoming a Carbon Literate Organisation, your organisation can achieve a reduction in CO2e emissions. The CLP estimates that Carbon Literacy training can deliver a 5-15% reduction in CO2e emissions per individual trained. This in turn can deliver cost reductions, as reducing emissions is often associated with reduced utility bills and business mileage expenses. As a certified Carbon Literate organisation, you can demonstrate the proactive approach taken to tackle change through staff engagement and behaviour change.
